Weekend Haps

We had a nice weekend despite the gray weather on Sunday. Friday night I headed out with some friends who are moms of twins to the Austin Moms of Multiples (A-MOM) sale. This is an annual sale they have where the members sell gently used toys, clothes, shoes, bedding, nursery accessories, etc. Since my friends are all members, they get to shop early before the sale opens to the public. Even better, they get to bring one guest and my friend Jennifer brought me (thanks, Jennifer!). I scored some sweet deals including a brand new train table set with all the accessories and trains. I wasn't planning on buying any big (literally) ticket items, but I just couldn't pass it up ($70 for something that normally costs $200+). After some rearranging of our playroom, it fits perfectly and Will has been spending hours playing with that thing. Score! After the sale, my friends and I went to grab dinner and drinks. Not a bad way to spend an evening: shopping and margaritas.

Saturday we went down to SoCo (for you non-Austinites, this means South Congress) to watch the annual Lonestar Round-up, a car show that then culminates in all the old school hot rods (think 55' Chevys) "cruising" up and down Congress. My husband grew up with a love of old cars and car shows--something he and his dad and brother did together. So we went downtown, enjoyed the gorgeous afternoon, saw all the old restored cars and ate dinner (oh, and of course stopped at the infamous hey cupcake! trailer afterwards. Who can say no to butter cream frosting?) PS: Note that the last two pics below were taken at dinner. Did you know that there are dozens of iPhone apps targeted at toddlers? Will's favorites include a Thomas the Train puzzle where he has to put the correct pieces into the shapes to make a train and an Itsy Bitsy Spider game that has numbers and letters incorporated. It's seriously genius, especially when you are out to dinner and your kid is so over the ginormous bag of toys you brought from home to keep him occupied. I heart Steve Jobs.
