Last summer when we were in Minnesota visiting relatives, we took Will fishing on the boat with us, but he was still too young to really "get it". I recently bought Will his own little fishing pole ($3.00 at the A-MOM sale, thank you very much), and we took Will to Lake Travis last weekend for his first official fishing exursion.
We tried fishing off a bridge and didn't catch anything, but it was still fun to get out there and try. This morning we attempted another fishing trip, this time to the dock off Lake Austin that's in our neighborhood (we are lucky to have access to this beautiful spot). We hiked down to the lake as Will picked up acorns along the way (which he probably enjoyed more than the actual fishing. Note to self: check his pockets before doing laundry). We got to the dock and dropped our lines in, had breakfast, and attempted to catch a fish.
We didn't have luck, yet again, but it was still fun to get out there and watch our son try fishing for the first time. He still doesn't have a lot of patience for it and he's more interested in the lures at this point than the actual fishing process, but hopefully this is the start of a life-long love of fishing and the outdoors.
Here are a few pics from our morning:
